When a lens is aspheric, the base curve is not consistent across the surface of a lens, allowing the physical lens to accommodate for a steeper base in the near add zone, and a flatter base for distance vision. The result, a marriage of ‘hardware’ and ‘software’.

Aspheric lenses also accommodate flatter base curves on high + prescriptions allowing a better fitting lens in today’s frames.
