Patient’s lenses need to stay clean to continue to work for them. ICONZERO uses a revolutionary hydro and oleo phobic top layer to actively repel dirt, dust, debris, oils and water. This is a coating that not only repels, but it keeps daily contaminates from being able to adhere to the lens. In statistical data terms, the leading brand AR coatings populate a value of 115º water contact angle, while ICONZERO performs at 128º, the highest repellency angle on the market today. In real world terms, this allows the lenses to be more slick, and stay cleaner longer. With this, objects are easier to remove, allowing cleaning time and effort to drop dramatically.

What makes an AR excellent?

A premium coating needs to hold up. ICONZERO has been run through the wringer on testing for durability. The adhesion of the chemical properties now have an advanced barrier to keep deterioration from happening. This is tested independently by a technique called “simulated rub testing” where the lens is put into a machine that simulates wiping your glasses with a cloth designed to mimic a T shirt. ICONZERO outlasts 40,000 cycles with less than 1% of deterioration, compared to leading AR coatings that show 2% deterioration at 20,000 cycles. A stronger bond also means the coatings are less susceptible to heat and crazing, allowing the bonding agents between lens, hard coat and AR to remain stronger, even when placed in boiling water.

With the purpose of AR to allow the maximum amount of light and color to pass through a lens without distortion, we wanted to make ICONZERO as clear as possible. When placed on a CR39 plastic lens, less than 0.02% of light is lost by the time it meets the eye. The residual color is minimal, but beautiful with hues of green.

This relationship and desire to innovate without the constraints of corporate approval or budget has led to this innovation. Our AR process engineer has taken formularies and raw material utilized in the health, watchmaking and technology industry and applied them to our AR coatings. This technology is patented, and will not be utilized by the big guys. Independent data was paid for and tested by NSL Analytical as well as COLTS laboratories, third party companies that test all kinds of media for durability.
